Eufaula Lake is the largest lake located entirely in the state of Oklahoma. It is formed by the Canadian River, 27 miles upstream from its confluence with the Arkansas River and near the town of Eufaula. It is located between Muskogee and McAlester and to the south of I-40. Eufaula offers a variety of recreational opportunities for everyone. The shoreline ranges from vast expanses of sandy beaches to rocky bluffs.
The Dam
Construction began in December 1956 and was completed in February 1964. Power was first generated in July 1964. The project was completed for full flood control operation in February 1964. The dam is a rolled earth structure 3,200 feet long, including the spillway and powerhouse intake, and rises to a maximum height of 114 feet above the streambed. Oklahoma State Highway 71 crosses the crest of the dam.
The Lake
Eufaula has 102,000 surface acres and 600 miles of shoreline. A well-known tournament lake, Lake Eufaula draws anglers from across the United States to test their skills at catching largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, Kentucky bass, crappie, catfish, sandbass, stripers (below the dam), and other species.
Recreation
There are 7 Class A campgrounds located around Eufaula Lake as well as day uses areas and primitive campsites. Activities at Lake Eufaula include boating, fishing, swimming, hiking, hunting, golfing and horseback riding. Picnic areas are scattered throughout the area. Facilities include marinas, boat ramps, swim beaches, tent and RV campsites, cabins, group shelters, restrooms, showers and an enclosed fishing dock.

Eufaula: April 18. Elevation 3 feet below, water 59 and stained. Largemouth bass good on crankbaits and jerk baits in rocky areas. White bass good on jigs around boat dock when running water. Blue catfish good on a variety of baits on shallow flats and shallow rocky areas. Crappie good on minnows and jigs at 1-6 ft. around brushy and rocky areas along the shore. Report submitted by Ed Rodebush, game warden stationed in McIntosh County.
Eufaula: April 11. Elevation 3 1/2 ft. below normal, water clear. Largemouth bass fair on crankbaits and plastic baits around rocky areas. White bass good on jigs below the dam when running water. Blue catfish good on shad and a variety of baits at 3-10 ft. along rocky areas and on flats. Crappie fair on minnows and jigs at 2-6 ft. along rocky and brushy areas within 20 ft. of the bank.
