Lake Hamilton is located on the southern edge of Hot Springs, Arkansas's most popular tourist destination. Today, the 7,460-acre impoundment is one of Arkansas's most popular recreational and residential lakes. Much of it is ringed with condominiums, resorts, motels, restaurants and private homes. State Scenic 7 Byway crosses the lake.
The Dam
The Carpenter Dam was bulit for Arkansa Power and Light by the Ford, Bacon, and Davis engineering and construction firm. Construction began in 1929 and was completed in 1931. All the lumber and gravel for the concrete used in the dam's construction was taken from the future lake bed, while electrical power was supplied by Remmel Dam. At the height of construction during the fall of 1929, nearly 1000 men were employed on-site.
The Lake
Lake Hamilton is 18.5 miles long and covers 7,460 acres. It was the largest lake in Arkansas for several years until the enormous Corps of Engineers projects of the post-World War II period eclipsed it. Almost immediately the lake assumed great importance as a recreational resource. Because of its proximity to the city of Hot Springs and Hot Springs National Park, already nationwide tourist attractions, Lake Hamilton has over the years itself become one of the region's and the state's leading tourist attractions.
Recreation
Fishing, pleasure boating and water-skiing, are popular Hot Springs attractions on Lake Hamilton and rentals of watercraft and sport accessories are readily available. 4 boat launch ramps, 2 marinas and numerous camper & RV Parks are scattered about, mostly on the outskirts of the city, and include all the expected amenities.

Lake Hamilton Fishing Report 04/21/2011
Trader Bill's Outdoor Sports said the water temperature is in the upper 50s to low 60s, and the water is clear. The lake is full and warming quickly. Bass are being caught in creeks on a jigworm in the guts of pockets. Also, try a crankbait on rocks with sun shining on them or a Rat-L-Trap on sunny flats in the afternoon. After rains, concentrate in the creeks with a spinnerbait. Crappie are being caught in 5 to 8 feet of water on jigs or minnows.
