ABA Div 49 Lake of the Ozarks Results

Tournament Date: Oct 22, 2011

Tim Merkh takes the win at Lake of the Ozarks

American Bass Anglers District #49 had their 1st tourney for the new season held on 22 Oct 2011 at Shawnee Bend on Lake of the Ozarks. It was a very tough day of fishing, especially trying to catch keepers. A lot of fish were reported being caught but the majority of them were shorts. The weather was very nice, not too hot or cold. The wind was at a minimun with some clouds. The only bad thing today besides the big fish not biting were the BIG BOATS. I do believe that they get a thrill by seeing just how bad they can rock the bass boats. They were out today just doing that...lol... never-the-less, it was still a great day.

Tim Merkh from Knob Knoster took 1st place honors today with 4 fish that went 7.14 lbs. He reported catching all his fish in the Gravois area using sinko's, zara spook and jigs. He fished very shallow to get his 4 keepers today. Tim is sponsored by Sedelia Outdoor Sports, Ranger/Yamaha, Gloomis and Shimano. Congrats Tim.

Gary Nordsiect from Mayview, Mo. took 2nd with two fish that went 6.15 lbs. He too was in the Gravois area and caught his fish on a buzzbait and a Squarebill crank bait.

Third place went to the little man, Russ McBurney from Springfield, Mo. He had three fish that went 5.92 lbs. He reported catching his fish up the Osage using worms and jigs all day. Russ is sponsored by MoBassFishin and Float Trip Pickles.

4th place went to Dale Pichelmayer from St. Roberts, Mo. He had 2 fish that went 5.80 lbs.He caugh fish from the Shawnee Bend area all the way to PB1. He used a Texas rigged craw and a squarebill crank bait to catch his keepers..Now I cannot let a good story go without being told. He was telling me that he thought he had himself a real hawg on. He was so sure of it that he was yelling for the net, he yelled again for the net , then he realized that he was fishing by himself today and he did not have anyone else in the boat with him. So he managed to get the net, boy this is a big mama of a hawg he was saying. It came up, he netted it, screaming he had BIG BASS. He then reached in the net to pull it out and darn.... its a hugh white bass. Sorry dale, you can't weigh it. Schuky Darn. Dale is sponsored by Bass Pro, Nitro Boats, Bumber Stumper, JD Lures and Mercury/Motorguide.

Big Bass honors went to Darrell Durham of St. Peters, Mo. His bass went 3.86 lbs and he caught it on a jig in about 5 ft of water. He was up in the Osage area, darrell is sponsored by Durham tackle and Lock & Haul.

I want to take this moment and thank everyone for showing up and fishing. We all had a great time today. Our next tournament will be our Open tournament held at Shawnee Bend on Lake of the Ozarks, 31 March 2012. I hope to see a lot of new faces as well as the regulars too. I wish everyone out there a happy holidays and a safe one too.
