Mark Moody Scores A Victory River Fishing

Mark Moody's decision to go south at take-off paid off for him. Most of the other D126 anglers headed north and reported struggling all day to catch fish. Moody, of Farlington, KS reported catching 10-15 keeper fish during the day. "The fish weren't biting like they had been last week, so I just started fishing like my Dad and I used to fish, going down the bank throwing a worm," said Moody. He brought in the only limit. It weighed 16.56 lbs and included Big Fish of the tournament, a 4.37 lbs.

Second place went to Jim Bruffey of Springfield with 6.42 lbs; Daryl Carson of Parsons, KS took 3rd with 5.04 lbs. Full results with pictures and D126 YTD Standings can be viewed at www.centralmidwestbass.com.

The next D126 tournament will be two 1-day tournaments July 31 and August 1 at Stockton Lake going out of Hawker Point Public Ramp. These will be the last 1-day events. The race for Angler of the Year is still tight and there are still several anglers in the running. Moody has pulled into the lead with 765 points, followed by Chad McManis who has 761 points.

D126 has several sponsors to thank, including Lake Stockton Mini Mart, McManis Insurance, Rogers Fishing Hunting and Archery and 107.7 FM. The newest sponsor is Stone Ridge Lodge, a small resort located only 10 minute drive from Hawker Point Ramp. Look on out website for more information about this lodge as well as a full listing of sponsors with contact information.

A weather front was moving across Stockton Lake as D126 anglers took off Saturday June 19, with some pretty stiff winds and lightning in the distance. It was not a rain-maker and lasted only a couple of hours. Skies remained overcast for a good part of the morning. When the sun came out and temperatures rose, it became almost unbearably hot and humid.

COE had been pulling water out of the lake for the past few weeks after several heavy rains had raised the water level to seven to eight feet above normal, putting the brush along the bank into several feet of water. The water level is still three to four feet high, but is no longer being dropped.

The weather has been moderate, with lake water temperatures staying in the mid to upper 70's. The week before this tournament air temperatures stayed in the 90's, raising the water temperature above 80's.
