Tournament Date: Jun 12, 2010
The Leavenworth Bass Club held its' 8th tournament of the 2010 season at Truman Lake on Saturday, 12 June launching from the Long Shoal Corp Ramp at 5:30 A.M. and weighing in at 3:00 P.M.. In recent weeks Truman had been producing heavy sacks and most believed it would be a good day of fishing. Several club members pre-fished on Thursday and Friday and reported a good strong bite up shallow in the flooded bushes but some of the quality fish where being caught in the 6-8ft depth along the old bank line. Dock talk consensus had most of the fish positioned on the main and secondary points and catchable by a variety of presentations. As the tournament kicked off Saturday morning, most club members believed there would be lots of fish weighed in and several big fish brought to the scales. The main lake, Grand and Osage arms were stained while the Tebo and Pomme arms were clear to slightly stained. The day began with cloudy skies and a 7-10 mph wind from the South, clearing by noon with wind gusting to near 20 mph and a severe thunderstorm rolling in around 2pm. 11 boats and 19 anglers made the trip with the club and weighed in 108.07 lbs of bass a 5.69lb per angler average.

Taking 1st place was Bill Horvath with a five fish limit that weighed 14.33lbs. Bill's sack was anchored by a nice 3.71lb fish that was good for the boater big bass. Bill did not have any time for pre-fishing so he went to locations that had produced for him in the past under similar conditions. Bill fished green bushes in one creek in the Grand Arm all day. He focused on bushes in 4-8 ft of water and caught his limit on top water (Spooks and buzzbaits) and was able to cull with once later in the morning with a shaky head finesse worm in the same area. Bill's key was the top water lure had to be almost hitting the bushes to get the fish to commit, if it was more than a foot or so away, no bites. Congratulations to Bill for his first tournament win with the LBC.

Taking 2nd place was Larry Stoafer with a five fish limit that weighed 12.97 lbs. Larry's bag was anchored by a strong top water bite as well. Larry reported having 12lbs in the boat by 6:30 AM on a white and chartreuse Secrete Weapon Lures Pro Assassinator Buzzbait. Larry focused on main lake and secondary points in the Grand Arm fishing green bushes and the old bank line from 4-8ft depth. Larry reported catching 8 keepers on the day culling twice with a Texas rigged 10 inch powerbait worm in Moccasin later in the day. Larry would like to thank his sponsors Secret Weapon Lures, 7-24 Outdoors, Crooked Creek Tackle, Blackwater International Inc., Fish Harder Companies, Tru Tungsten, Picasso, and Youvella USA.

Taking 3rd place was Dennis Edwards with a five fish limit that weighed 12.13 lbs after a fish care penalty. Dennis caught his fish in the main lake area Carolina rigging a 6inch Green pumpkin lizard in 4-6ft of water on main lake points.

Taking 4th place was Randy Kenton who fished from the back seat of Dennis' boat with a five fish limit that weighed 11.83 lbs after a fish care penalty. Randy caught his fish in the main lake area Carolina rigging a 6 and 8 inch Zoom green pumpkin lizard with chartreuse dyed tails in 4-6ft of water on main lake points. Randy reported that one main lake point produced 4 of his keepers by 6:30 am. Then struggled but finally returned to the same point later in the day to bag his 5th keeper. Randy reported catching a lot of shorts thru out the day but all his keepers came off one location.

Taking 5th place was Mark Justice with a five fish limit that weighed 11.46 lbs. All of Mark's keepers came in a 45 min period starting around 11:30 AM. Mark worked the flooded willows in 5-6ft of water with a homemade jig in the Sterret Creek area. Mark's homemade jig was black, blue, and purple on a 5/16 oz round head made by Fitzwater Lures with a sweet beaver trailer. Mark targeted smaller willows with the wind blowing into them and culled twice on the day.

Steve Clark took non-boater big bass with a 3.93 lb fish. Steve caught his fish from the back seat of Ray Hillebrand's boat fishing the Tebo Creek Arm.
A very nice day of fishing overall with lots of fish being caught. The Leavenworth Bass Club's next tournament is on 17 July at Mozingo Lake. As you can see there are a lot of opportunities to catch fish with The Leavenworth Bass Club.
