The Leavenworth Bass Club held its' 11th tournament of the 2010 season at Mozingo Lake near Maryville, Mo on Saturday, 14 August, launching from the City Ramp at 6:00 A.M. and weighing in at 2:00 P.M.. With only 3 events remaining in the 2010 season the Angler of the Year standings are starting to take shape. Bob Jorgensen has virtually wrapped up the Angler of the Year honors with his previous performances this year. The reigning 2009 Angler of the Year, Bob Greene is currently holding down 2nd place with several anglers in a position to make a move in the last three events like Randy Kenton, Bill Gevedon, Danny Lee, and Ken Hackworth. The LBC also has three anglers on their rookie campaign with the club in the top ten: Travis Perret, and the father and son duo of Ray and Garret Cates. There will be a lot of movement on the leader board in the next two months as the LBC completes its 2010 season.
Mozingo is a relatively small lake compared to many of the Midwest reservoirs that the LBC visits for its other tournament venues. With approximately 1000 surface acres, Mozingo's standing timber and aquatic vegetation provide great fish habit and makes it one of the premier bass fisheries in the entire Midwest. The Leavenworth Bass Club members have learned that even under extreme midsummer conditions with water temps in the mid to upper 80's; Mozingo still produces some nice sacks of bass and lots of fish catching action every year.
During the months of July and August, Missouri state fishing regulations require anglers to make a keep or release decision as soon as the bass is brought to the boat. Unlike other times of the year when culling (replacing smaller fish with larger ones) during the day is allowed. The no-cull rule is in place to reduce the stress on the fish during the midsummer heat. Saturday began somewhat cooler than the heat wave that had hit the Midwest for the last two weeks and all 8 boats and 13 of the15 members of the Leavenworth Bass Club that fished the tournament weighed in fish. The club weighed in and released 104.45 lbs of bass a 6.96 lb per angler average.

Taking 1st place was one of the LBC's newest members; Rodney Bledsoe, in only his second tournament with the club, weighed in a five fish limit that tipped the scales at 13.77 lbs narrowly edging out Bob Greene by .21 of a lb for the win. Rodney's first limit that he has ever bought to the scales must of felt pretty good when he seen the final standings. Rodney fished from the back of Ken Hackworth's boat and was on a grass pattern. Two of his fish fell for a 4" Bass Pro Shops Humpin Toad, while two came on Zoom Horny Toad on the inside edge of the grass line all before 9:30 am. Rodney's 5th keeper was taken on a Texas rigged Power Bait 10" Red Shad worm in about 8ft of water on the outside of the grass line.

Taking 2nd place was two time and reigning LBC Angler of the Year Bob Greene, who came into the weekend with only one win and a second under his belt through 10 events in 2010. Those results are far below his expectations but he had finished well enough in the other tournaments to hold on to second place in the 2010 Angler of the Year Standings with three events remaining. Most would consider that a great season but those who know Bob know that he fishes to win. Bob was back to his true form this day and for the second consecutive tournament brought in the boater big bass with a nice 4.27 lb largemouth that anchored his 13.56 lb limit that narrowly edged out Mark Luna for 2nd place by .27 lbs. Bob reported not being able to practice for this tournament, but relied on historical data he's complied on the fishery to target fish suspended in standing timber. Bob targeted trees in 20-25 feet of water and reported that his fish were suspended in the 10-15 feet depth. Bob used a 5 1/4 inch Whopper Baits Whipping Stick in Watermelon Red Flake to catch his better fish. Bob would like to thank all of his sponsors for providing him with the opportunity to pursue his passion of competitive bass fishing: Wired2fish, Gemini Sport Marketing, Fitzwater Custom Lures, Whopper Baits , Fish Blaster Baits , Mikes Pro Bass Gear, Iguana Grafix , R&H Marine , Transducer Armor , and Gandy Custom Tackle.
Taking 3rd place was Mark Luna with a five fish limit that weighed 13.29lbs. Mark fished a grass pattern and found some quality fish with two of the top four finishers fishing from his boat with a combined weight of 24.07 lbs. Less than 1/2 lb separated our top three anglers.

Taking 4th place was Ray Cates with a five fish limit that weighed 10.78lbs. Ray fished from the back seat of Mark Luna's boat and used a 6" Yum Dinger around the outer edges of the grass to fill his limit. Ray reported that the best grass was in 6-10ft and had some sort of wood nearby.
Taking 5th place was Dave Clevenger with a five fish limit that weighed 10.72lbs. Dave missed taking 4th place by a mere .04 lbs. Anchoring Dave's bag was the big bass of the tournament a nice 4.87 lb fish which took the non-boater big bass honors on the day. Dave fished from the backseat of Mike Rascoe's boat.
The Leavenworth Bass Club's next tournament is on 21 August at Mozingo Lake. As you can see, there are a lot of opportunities to catch fish with The Leavenworth Bass Club.
